Sister Blanche was the director of the School of Nursing from 1963 to 1980.
Sister Blanche's leadership was pivotal for the school, paving the way to create the modern Charity School of Nursing of today. She was responsible for the integration of the school, and for admitting men and married students. She was the force behind the construction of the Education Building in the 1970s. She saw the need for a Media Center which was the beginning of the state-of-the-art media offerings the students benefit from today. Sister Blanche was also uniquely caring, and a stalwart student advocate. She was a real visionary. Sister passed away in 2012, still vibrant at the age of 92, and the CHSN Alumni Association established the Sister Blanche McDonnell Scholarship in honor of this extraordinary nurse and educator.
